The "barrio Minero Alalay", it's a story

Our spanish school Carmen Vega is located in the southeast of Cochabamba in the “barrio minero Alalay”, close to the city center and next to a lake. . The workers of the mines of Catavi-Siglo XX built this quarter in the 50’s, and progressively came to live in this area when the mines closed during the 70’s and 80’s. This creates a significant solidarity between the inhabitants. Most of the families are modest and contrast with the wealthy families of the north of the city.

a quiet area close to the center

This is a quiet and safe area, located 10 minutes away from the Cancha (famous market of the city) and the Christ of the Concordia (the most famous monuments of Cochabamba, from where you will have an amazing view of the city and the valley). It is very easy to go to the city center (that you will reach in 15 minutes) and to move around the city thanks to the taxis, buses and “taxi-truffi” (shuffle).

many shops and activities

In this quarter, you will also find everything you need: groceries, market, restaurants, pharmacies, banks, laundries, library, hair salons… There is also on of the biggest hospital of the city, the Hospital Univalle, which gives access to quality healthcare. There are a lot of gymnasium and fields of soccer, basketball, volleyball, swimming pool, sauna… You can also walk, run or cycle around Alalay Lake.

We propose you a lot of different activities during your free time to get to learn the Bolivian culture.
